Obama needs to move on gay rights

A New York Times/CBS News poll recently showed that 57 percent of people younger than 40 support marriage equality, compared to only 31 percent of the 40-plus crowd. A whopping 75 percent of all age groups support the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and the ban on homosexuals in the armed forces. Six states have already legalized the freedom to marry. It’s time for the federal government to do the same. [Link]

13 resign from Nebraskan diversity team after lesbian speaker canceled

"Because my partner isn't male, my family doesn't count. It isn't a family," Gillespie said. "(I was going to speak) so they could be a little more aware when they're discussing their own issues with their own children, so we could stop perpetuating bias and prejudice." When the co-chairs of the committee were told by HHS administrators that Gillespie could not participate, they and 11 others resigned from the committee. [link]

Lawyers mull US Supreme Court appeal in Nebraska marriage case

Attorneys who lost an appeal of Nebraska's broad ban on any recognition of same-sex relationships, called "the most extreme antigay family law in the nation," say they are still considering whether to appeal the case to the US Supreme Court. [link]
