Some Gay Couples Choose to Wait for D.C. Marriage Law

Washington Post
October 9, 2009
Last week City Council Member David Catania (D) introduced a bill that says "any person . . . may marry any other eligible person regardless of gender," and it is expected to pass the D.C. Council easily. While some gay couples have married elsewhere already, many have chosen to wait. Not because they have no desire for marriage, with its financial protections and security, but because they wanted to marry here, where they live, not in some distant state where they have no connection.
