Voice for Equality: Michael Sucsy

Michael Sucsy is a film director, screenwriter, and producer. Sucsy began directing commercials through Los Angeles-based Palomar Pictures and he was soon dubbed by Shoot! Magazine "as one of the industry's crop of new directors to watch." He was subsequently nominated for the Young Director of the Year Award given in conjunction with the 2002 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. In 2003, Sucsy began work on Grey Gardens for HBO, a film based on the famous true story of Jackie Kennedy's eccentric relatives ‘Big Edie’ Beale and daughter ‘Little Edie’. The film - ultimately featuring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore in the leading roles - debuted in April, 2009, receiving multiple nominations including 17 Emmy Award nominations, including Sucsy for writing, directing, and producing and the 2009 Television Critics Association award for Outstanding Achievement Movies, Mini-Series, and Specials. The film’s 17 Emmy Award nominations ties the all-time nomination record for made-for-TV movies.

Mr. Sucsy was photographed wearing a White Knot at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, CA on September 20, 2009. The White Knot for Equality organization is dedicated to the idea of marriage equality. One of their quotes is “Everyone should have the right to tie the knot,” and they illustrate this point by producing and distributing White Knots nationally and worldwide. They encourage marriage equality supporters to “wear the White Knot every day to show support and to create conversation. Share the White Knot and spread the word that all loving couples deserve the same legal rights, benefits, and respect that civil marriage bestows." [Link]
