Diane J. Savino is a New York State Senator, having been elected to the 23rd Senatorial District (northern Staten Island and southern Brooklyn) in 2004. Prior to becoming a member of the Senate, Savino served as a caseworker with the New York City Child Welfare Administration, and was an active member of her local labor union (Local 371, DC 37 of AFSCME) for which she served as the Vice President for Political Action & Legislative Affairs. In the recent push to pass a marriage equality bill in the New York State Senate, Senator Savino has consistently supported the legislation at issue and provided insight as to when a vote will take place among New York State Senate members.
