EDITORIAL: Vermont next state to allow gay marriage?

Vermont lawmakers appointed a commission last year to listen to Vermonters' views on the topic of gay marriage, and they learned that the atmosphere had changed since the furious battles of 2000. The commission heard some opposition to full marriage equality, but it heard much persuasive testimony in support. The state's experience with civil unions has shown many Vermonters that equal rights for homosexuals hurt no one. Rather, they widen the circle of democracy's freedoms. Gay marriage does not undermine marriage. Rather, it extends the rights and benefits of marriage to all. [Link]
