As marriage equality has rolled through the Northeast in recent weeks, the focus of much of the battle has shifted away from marriage itself and toward a range of amendments to marriage legislation aimed at giving those who don't believe in same-sex marriage the right not to participate in it in any way. Evan Wolfson said he opposes all such amendments. "The First Amendment and the existing religious exemptions in the body of civil rights law going back decades already provides the right level of exemption," he said. "To go down the other path is to begin dismantling the civil rights laws that protect all of us." [Link]
