Voice for Equality: Chuck Schumer

Senator Chuck Schumer has proudly served the state of New York for over a decade and is now the third-ranking Democrat in the Senate, preceded by Majority Leader Harry Reid and Majority Whip Dick Durbin. In March 2009, at a private dinner with gay leaders at the Gramercy Tavern, Schumer reversed his position on the freedom to marry. Schumer now fully supports marriage equality, as well as a full reversal of the Defense of Marriage Act

In a subsequent statement to The New York Post, Schumer said,

"It's time. Equality is something that has always been a hallmark of America and no group should be denied it."
