Although the campaigns for and against Maine's marriage equality law have been "relatively low-profile" compared to those in the battle over Calif.'s Prop. 8, many LGBT equality advocates and anti-gay activists see the fate of Question 1 as pivotal for the future of the national debate over marriage for same-sex couples.
