Meghan McCain is Redefining Republican

GAY RIGHTS
January 19, 2010

Meghan McCain is scheduled to speak at George Washington University's "Marriage Equality Week," scheduled for February 9. A student gay rights group is thrilled that she's coming, but a student Republican organization feels like they were duped. They wanted Ms. McCain to speak about the new face of the Republican Party, and now they're miffed that she'll be talking about the freedom to marry. [Link]

Meghan McCain could be the face of hope for Republicans. I have been waiting for a person to step forward amongst the Republicans and show compassion and humanity. I look forward to see how she handles the publicity and what she will do with it.

I agree with pdm1289. Any Republicans showing that much heart give me great hope.

The other side of the same coin is Republicans could choose to be progressive, responsive, and support Freedom To Marry.

Why can't Republicans just take a page from the Libertarians? Small government. It's that simple. The Defense of Marriage Act infringes on state rights. Allowing one religion to dominate over others (since not all Christian denominations even condenm homosexuality) in government policy is a violation of the First Amendment. Voting on the rights of a minority is a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment.

The Republican Party is going to fall if they continue with their contradictions and hypocrisy on the issues.
