Voice for Equality: Bruno Tonioli

Bruno Tonioli is an Italian choreographer and TV personality who currently appears as a judge on the hit shows Strictly Come Dancing for BBC TV in the UK, and its American adaptation Dancing with the Stars on ABC TV in the US. Tonioli has become widely known for his jubilant comments and critiques after couples' performances on both shows. Additionally, he co-created and appeared on the BBC talent show DanceX, as well as its American adaptation, Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann. He has appeared on numerous talk shows including Larry King Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Bonnie Hunt Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The View, Live with Regis & Kelly, Rachael Ray, The Soup, and "Chelsea Lately." Tonioli is openly gay, and has spoken of the homophobic bullying he suffered in his youth. Learn more here.

Bruno Tonioli was photographed wearing a White Knot at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, CA on April 18, 2009. The White Knot for Equality organization is dedicated to the idea of marriage equality. One of their quotes is “Everyone should have the right to tie the knot,” and they illustrate this point by producing and distributing White Knots nationally and worldwide. They encourage marriage equality supporters to “wear the White Knot every day to show support and to create conversation. Share the White Knot and spread the word that all loving couples deserve the same legal rights, benefits, and respect that civil marriage bestows." [Link]
