Voice for Equality: Daniela Sea

Daniela Sea is an American musician, performance artist, former circus juggler, and actress. She is best known for her role as Moira Sweeney on The L Word. Over the course of her first season, Moira came out as a trans man, adopting the name "Max Sweeney". Besides The L Word, Sea's filmography also includes the films Shortbus (2006) and Itty Bitty Titty Committee, released in 2007. She also appeared in the John Cameron Mitchell-directed music video for Bright Eyes' "First Day of My Life." On February 17th 2009, she guested starred on an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as a transgender boy, playing a similar role to Max Sweeney. In addition to acting, Ms. Sea has been a member of several banks including Bitch and the Exciting Conclusion and The Thorns of Life. She and Leisha Hailey (Alice) are the only out lesbians in The L Word ensemble cast, although Laurel Holloman (Tina) is bisexual. Learn more here.

It was announced on October 14, 2009 that Daniela Sea would be participating in the Love Unites Shepard Fairey Equality Project, a new marriage equality advocacy project for which 100 celebrities would be signing their names and customizing a Shepard Fairey print titled Defend Equality - Love Unites. Fairey, whose Obama Hope print became the iconic emblem of President Obama’s 2008 campaign, was approached by FAIR, an LGBT grassroots marriage equality organization, to commission an image that would help unite and inspire the marriage equality movement. Fairey: “I am proud to contribute the Defend Equality Love Unites image to the fight for marriage equality, and commend FAIR for putting this image to good use."
