Voice for Equality: Steve Rothman

U.S. Representative Steve Rothman (NJ-D) found his Rainbow connection found his rainbow connection in June 2008 when he joined the newly formed LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender) Equality Caucus in the House, along with 51 other representatives.

The goal of the caucus formed by openly gay Reps. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisc., and Barney Frank, D-Mass., is to raise awareness in Congress about gay and lesbian issues. He has a Lesbian daughter and also announced his support for marriage equality.

He is a Democrat from Fair Lawn representing the southern portion of Bergen County, parts of northern Hudson County, and the Borough of Hawthorne in Passaic County in New Jersey's Ninth Congressional District. Now serving in his seventh term, Steve is a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, which allocates all of the funds in the federal budget. He sits on the Defense, State and Foreign Operations, and Homeland Security Subcommittees of the Appropriations Committee. He is also a member of the House Science and Technology Committee's Subcommittees on Space and Aeronautics and Investigations and Oversight.
