Many Catholics support the right of all people to marry, whether to a person of the opposite sex or to a person of the same sex. Church authorities should stick to the governance of religious wedding ceremonies and leave to civil authorities the responsibility of granting marriage licenses, a responsibility that should be exercised without discrimination.
