From the Floor and the Heart, New York Senators Make an Issue Personal

The New York Times
December 2, 2009
In an extraordinarily personal marriage equality debate in Albany yesterday, senator after senator shared intimate aspects of their lives. As Freedom to Marry's Evan Wolfson pointed out:
Pro-marriage senators told deeply moving, personal stories, drawing on their commitment to treating others as we all want to be treated, their beliefs, and their experiences as people of color, people of diverse faiths, and people with gay loved ones... Those opposed had nothing to say to justify their denial of marriage to their neighbors.
