Mark Shields and Winnie Stachelberg write about the offering of a "wink" to LGBT people by certain television shows. Shields and Stachelberg claim that these subtle nods creating a less hostile environment for LGBT people without upsetting anybody else, and say that acts like Cindy McCain's participation in the "NoH8" campaign could be a signal of a "new generation of gay winking going on," especially by the spouses of political leaders.
